World’s largest multi-stage scheme Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project inaugurated in Telangana

World’s largest multi-stage scheme Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Telangana Chandrashekar Rao at Medigadda in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally district.

Kaleshwaram irrigation project is the world's largest multi-stage multi-purpose lift irrigation scheme that is bound to benefit the state.

Under Kaleshwaram Project, lifting of water from Godavari River would start from Medigadda lift point.

The inauguration present at the event included Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Telangana Governor ELS Narasimhan besides Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Key Points of the Kaleshwaram multi-purpose lift irrigation project:

1. The Kaleshwaram multi-purpose lift irrigation project, built across Godavari river, has become the world’s biggest in terms of capacity with 3 Barrages, 1531 km of Gravity Canals, 203 km of Tunnels, 20 Lifts, 19 Pump houses and 20 Reservoirs with total capacity of 147 TMC water irrigating 37 lakh acres.
2. The irrigation project will support crop cultivation on 45 lakh acres of land.
3. The project will be significant in providing drinking water to 1 crore population of Hyderabad.
4. 16 TMC water from Kaleshwaram project will be reserved for industrial usage.
5. 169 TMC water will be used for agriculture.
