Virtual celebrations of the World Environment Day with focus on Urban Forest on the theme Biodiversity: Key Highlights 

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 5th June every year. Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change celebrates WED focusing on the theme declared by UNEP and organizes several events.

This year’s theme is ‘Biodiversity’. In view of the prevalent situation due to COVID-19 pandemic the ministry will be holding virtual celebrations of World Environment Day on this year’s theme theme with focus on Nagar Van (Urban Forests). Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, will grace the occasion as Chief Guest.

Centre Releases Rs.36,400 Crore as GST Compensation to States: Highlights with Details 

Taking stock of the current situation due to COVID-19 where State Governments need to undertake expenditure while their resources are adversely hit, the Central Government has released the GST Compensation of Rs.36,400 crore to the States/UTs with Legislature for the period from December, 2019 to February, 2020.

The GST Compensation of Rs.1,15,096 crore for period April-November, 2019 had already been released by the Central Government to the States/ UTs with Legislature.


CCI approves proposed merger between Peugeot S.A and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves proposed merger between Peugeot S.A and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. The proposed combination pertains to merger between Peugeot S.A. (“PSA”) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (“FCA”).

PSA is a publicly listed limited liability company incorporated in France. It is the holding company of a French-based group, which is mainly an original equipment manufacturer and dealer of motor vehicles, passenger cars as well as light commercial vehicles under the brands Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Vauxhall and DS. It also provides ancillary services such as, financing solutions for the acquisition of motor vehicles and mobility services and solutions.

FCA is a public company with limited liability, headquartered in London and incorporated and organised under the laws of the Netherlands. It is a global automotive group engaged in designing, engineering, manufacturing, distributing and selling vehicles, components and production systems worldwide.


World Environment Day 2020 Indian Navy’s Green Footprint to its Blue Water Operations  

Environment Protection and Green Initiatives have always been a key focus area of the Indian Navy. A responsible multi-dimensional force, the Indian Navy has embarked on reducing its environmental footprint through energy conservation, minimising marine pollution and use of alternative sources of energy. The ‘Indian Navy Environment Conservation Roadmap’ (INECR) has been the guiding document and key enabler for progressively achieving this vision of the Indian Navy to add a Green Footprint to its Blue Water operations.

The World Environment Day has grown to become a global platform for raising awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollution, global warming and sustainable consumption. Indian Navy conducted the World Environment Day this year adhering to the lockdown measures in force. Educational awareness programs, lectures and webinars were conducted over electronic media in Naval stations in lieu of the otherwise regular outdoor activities.

With the aim of reducing pollution from engine exhausts, the Indian Navy collaborated with IOCL to revise the fuel specifications.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi Addresses the virtual Global Vaccine Summit 2020

India has today pledged 15 Million US Dollars to Gavi, the international vaccine alliance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was addressing the virtual Global Vaccine Summit hosted by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson in which over 50 countries - business leaders, UN agencies, civil society, government ministers, Heads of State and country leaders participated.
