I. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to light up ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ the Nation will be celebrating 50 Years of Indo-Pak War
  • In December 1971, the Indian Armed Forces secured a decisive and historic Victory over Pakistan Army, which led to creation of a Nation - Bangladesh and also resulted in the largest Military Surrender after the World War – II. From 16 December, the Nation will be celebrating 50 Years of Indo-Pak War, also called ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’. Various commemorative events are planned across the Nation.
  • Inaugural event will be held at the National War Memorial (NWM) in New Delhi today which will be attended by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. On his arrival, the Prime Minister will be received by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh at the venue.


II. India Post Payments Bank launches its digital payments’ services DakPay: Highlights with Details
  • Department of Posts (DoP) and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) unveiled a new digital payment app ‘DakPay’ at virtual launch event. The App is launched as part of its ongoing efforts to provide Digital Financial inclusion at the last mile across India.
  • Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications, Law and Justice and Electronics and Information Technology launched India Post Payments Bank's UPI app #DakPay. Dak Pay UPI app allows users to create UPI ID and link multiple accounts across banks in a single mobile app.
  • The app facilitates instant money transfers, QR based merchant payments and online payments on e-commerce websites. Now send money instantly using Dak Pay. Available on Android platform. "Coming soon on iOS platform"


III. AYUSH Ministry approves 200 Ayush Health & Wellness Centres in Almora District of Uttarakhand
  • Under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM), the Ministry of AYUSH has approved 200 AYUSH Health & Wellness Centres (HWC) in Uttarakhand. In this regard, Arvind Lal Vandana Lal (ALVL) Foundation, New Delhi is providing support to the Department of AYUSH, Uttarakhand, in operationalization of AYUSH HWCs in Almora District of Uttarakhand. Accordingly, a tripartite MoU was signed among the partners on 10th December, 2020.
  • The overall responsibility of planning, implementation and providing essential support to the Trust to carry out designated activities will be rested with the State Government of Uttarakhand.


IV. QCI Launches Recognition Scheme for Hygiene Rating Audit Agencies
  • Quality Council of India (QCI) at the behest of the FSSAI has come out with a Scheme for approval of Hygiene Rating Audit Agencies to scale up Hygiene Rating by increasing the number of recognised Hygiene Rating Audit Agencies in the country. The detail of the scheme is available on QCI’s website.
  • FSSAI’s initiative of ‘Food Hygiene Rating Scheme’ is a certification system for food businesses supplying food directly to consumers, either on or off premise. The food establishments are rated based on food hygiene and safety conditions observed at the time of audit. 


V. Indian Army Organises Webinar on Modernisation of Repair Echelons in Line with Latest Technology Trends
  • Indian Army in partnership with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) held a one day Webinar on 14 December 2020 on “Agile EME : Facilitating Boots on Ground through Aggressive Industrial Outreach”.
  • The initiative will help the Indian Army to plan modernisation of its Repair Echelons in line with latest technology trends worldwide and also promote indigenisation to reduce dependency on imports and cut cost on repairs. But more important, the initiative will help reduce the time for which critical equipment of the field army remains unserviceable awaiting some critical spares/components to come from abroad (new or repaired).


VI. Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman chairs 23rd Meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council
  • Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 23rd Meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) through video conference in New Delhi.
  • The meeting reviewed the major macroeconomic developments and Financial Stability issues (global and domestic) with special reference to vulnerability related issues and noted that the policy measures taken by the Government of India and the financial sector regulatory authorities have ensured faster economic recovery in India as reflected in the reduced contraction of GDP in Q2 of 2020-21.

  • Prof Narasimha had served as Director of National Aerospace Laboratories and Chairperson of the Engineering Mechanics unit of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in Bengaluru.
