India successfully test-fired air version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from Sukhoi 30 MK-I     

India successfully test-fired the air version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the supersonic fighter aircraft Sukhoi 30 MK-I from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on December 08, 2021.

Key Highlights 

The launch is a major milestone in the BrahMos development. It clears the system for the serial production of air-version BrahMos missiles within the country. Major airframe assemblies which form the integral part of the Ramjet Engine are indigenously developed by Indian Industry. These include metallic and non-metallic air frame sections comprising Ramjet fuel tank and pneumatic fuel supply system. During the test,the structural integrity and functional performance have been proven. The air version of BrahMos was last flight tested in July 2021.

BrahMos is a Joint Venture between India (DRDO) and Russia (NPOM) for the development, production and marketing of the supersonic cruise missile. BrahMos is the potent offensive missile weapon system already inducted into the Armed Forces.


Cabinet approves continuation of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) from March 2021 to March 2024 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Department of Rural Development for continuation of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) beyond March 2021 wherein financial assistance is to be provided for the construction of the remaining 155.75 lakh houses, as on 31st March, 2021 under the scheme within total target of 2.95 crore houses.

The details of the approval given by the Cabinet are as follows:

  • Continuation of PMAY-G beyond March 2021 till March 2024 as per the existing norms to complete remaining houses within a cumulative target of 2.95 crore houses.
  • The total financial implication for construction of the remaining 155.75 lakh houses is Rs. 2,17,257 crore (Central Share Rs.1,25,106 crore and State Share Rs.73,475 crores) for achieving cumulative targets of 2.95 crore houses in rural areas under the PMAY-G and an additional requirement of Rs.18,676 Crore towards the interest repayment to NABARD.
  • Release of additional ₹45 lakh administrative funds annually from the Central share of Administrative funds (0.3% out of total Administrative fund of 2%) to each smaller State viz. Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand, the NE States except for Assam and Tripura and all UTs except J&K over and above 1.70 % administrative funds released to said States/UTs.
  • Continuation of Program Management Unit (PMU) and National Technical Support Agency (NTSA) till FY 2023-24.


Cabinet approves Ken-Betwa Interlinking of Rivers Project 

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the funding and implementation of Ken-Betwa inter-linking of rivers project. The total cost of Ken-Betwa link project has been assessed at Rs.44,605 crore at 2020-21 price levels. The Union Cabinet has approved central support of Rs.39,317 crore for the project, covering grant of Rs.36,290 crore and loan of Rs.3,027 crore.

The project will pave the way for more interlinking of river projects in India and also showcase to the world our ingenuity and vision.

This project involves transfer of water from the Ken to the Betwa River through the construction of Daudhan Dam and a canal linking the two rivers, the Lower Orr Project, Kotha Barrage -and Bina Complex Multipurpose Project. The project will provide an annual irrigation of 10.62 lakh ha, drinking water supply to a population of about 62 lakhs and also generate 103 MW of hydropower and 27 MW solar power. The Project is proposed to be implemented in 8 years with state of the art technology.

The Project will be of immense benefit to the water starved Bundelkhand region, spread across the states of MP and UP. This project will provide enormous benefits to the districts of Panna, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Damoh, Datia, Vidisha, Shivpuri and Raisen of Madhya Pradesh and Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi & Lalitpur of Uttar Pradesh.


Indian Army Vice Chief Gen C P Mohanty on a two-day visit to Qatar  

Lieutenant General C P Mohanty, Vice Chief of the Army Staff has proceeded on a two day visit to Qatar from 08 to 09 December 2021.

During the visit, the Vice Chief Lieutenant General C P Mohanty will take forward the excellent defence cooperation between the State of Qatar and India through multiple meetings with senior functionaries of the Qatari security establishment.

The VCOAS is scheduled to call on the MOS for Defence Affairs, Chief of Staff, Qatar Armed Forces, Commander of Qatar Emiri Land Forces (QELF) and the Commandant of Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College where he will exchange ideas on issues of mutual interest.

The Indian Army Vice Chief Gen C P Mohanty will visit the Headquarters of Qatar Emiri Land Forces, the Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College and Amiri Guard HQ. A key aspect of the visit is his scheduled interaction with the senior leadership of leading Qatari Defence industries. This visit will further strengthen the bilateral defence cooperation between both the nations.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 130.39 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.36%

With the administration of 80,86,910 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 130.39 Cr (1,30,39,32,286) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

The recovery of 8,251 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,40,97,388.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.36%, highest since March 2020. 9,419 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 94,742. Active cases constitute 0.27% of the country's total Positive Cases, which is lowest since March 2020.

The Weekly Positivity Rate at 0.74% remains less than 1% for the last 25 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 0.73%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below2% for the last 66 days and below 3% for 101 consecutive days now.
