Interest rates on Small Savings Schemes kept unchanged for fourth quarter of FY22
The government kept interest rates on small savings schemes, including NSC and PPF, unchanged for the fourth quarter of 2021-22 amid rising cases of the new variant coronavirus virus Omicron and high levels of inflation.
The Finance Ministry said, the rates of interest on Small Savings Schemes from 1st January to 31st March, 2022, will remain unchanged.
Public Provident Fund (PPF) and National Savings Certificate (NSC) will continue to carry an annual interest rate of 7.1 per cent and 6.8 per cent, respectively, in the fourth quarter as well.
GST Council defers hike in tax rate on textiles
The Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council, in its 46th meeting in Delhi, has decided to defer the hike in GST rate for textiles to 12 percent from 5 percent.
In its 45th meeting in Lucknow on 17 September, the council had decided to reform the inverted duty structure for footwear and textiles. Thereafter, with effect from January 1, 2022, the rate of footwear and textiles for any value was raised to 12 per cent. Earlier the rate of GST was five per cent per pair in case of apparel and sale price up to Rs 1,000 per piece in the case of footwear.

The Flag Officer is a qualified helicopter pilot and holds a Master’s Degree in Defence & Strategic Studies from the University of Madras. He has also undergone specialization in Search and Rescue and port operations with the US Coast Guard.

PM Modi to release 10th instalment of PM-KISAN Scheme today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 10th instalment of financial benefit under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme through video conferencing today, January 1, 2022, at 12:30 PM.
This will enable the transfer of an amount of more than Rs. 20,000 crore to more than 10 crore beneficiary farmer families.
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a financial benefit of Rs. 6000/- per year is provided to the eligible beneficiary farmer families, payable in three equal 4-monthly installments of Rs.2000/- each.
The fund is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. In this scheme,

India’s Cumulative COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 145.16 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.32%
With the administration of 58,11,487 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded145.16 Cr (1,45,16,24,150) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
8,949 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,42,75,312.
Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.32%. 22,775 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
India’s Active Caseloadis presently at 1,04,781. Active cases constitute 0.30% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 1.10% and the Daily Positivity rate also reported to be 2.05%.
