Election Commission announces 16th presidential election, voting to be held on July 18

16th Presidential Election of India: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the 16th presidential election, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, the voting will be held on the 18th of July.

The notification for the election will be issued on June 15 and the last date for filing nominations will be 29th of this month. The counting will be taken up on the 21st of July.

According to the Election Commission of India the total number of electors will be 4,809 including 776 Members of Parliament and 4,033 Members of Legislative Assemblies. The total value of the votes will be 10 lakh 86 thousand 431.

The term of office of Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, is ending on 24th July, 2022. As per Article 62 of the Constitution of India, an election to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of the term of office of the outgoing President is required to be completed before the expiration of the term.

Article 324 of the Constitution read with the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952, and the Presidential and Vice – Presidential Elections Rules, 1974 vests the superintendence, direction and control of the conduct of election to the office of the President of India in the Election Commission of India.(inp:newsOnair)
