CWG-2022: Achinta Sheuli clinches India's third gold at Birmingham Commonwealth Games
Commonwealth Games 2022: Weightlifter Achinta Sheuli clinched a gold medal in the men’s 73 kg category of weightlifting at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022).
Achinta Sheuli lifted a total of 313kg to win the gold medal, which includes 143kg in snatch and 170kg in clean and jerk at the Games.
It is the sixth medal for India in the competition and the third gold.
Earlier, Mirabai Chanu won India's first gold medal at Commonwealth Games 2022 by lifting a total of 201 KG in women’s 49 KG weightlifting event.
Sanket Sargar bagged silver in the men's 55kg weightlifting event. Bindyarani Devi won a Silver Medal in Women’s 55 kg Weightlifting and P. Gururaja secured Bronze in Men's 61kg weightlifting category.
The 19-year-old Jeremy Lalrinnunga from Mizoram, clinched India's second gold in the 67 kg category of weightlifting at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
About Commonwealth Games 2022 Gold Medalist Weightlifter Achinta Sheuli
Achinta Sheuli started weightlifting in the year 2011, idolizing his brother who was also a former Weightlifter. He later joined Army Sports Institute in 2015 and continued to excel in the sport. Same year in 2015 he was boarded in the Indian National Camp.
2016 & 2017 Achinta Sheuli again trained at ASI, after which he has been in the National camp since 2018. Having lost his Father at a very young age, Achinta’s mother Purnima Sheuli always supported him to follow his passion for Weightlifting and represent the country on the International stage.
