Justice DY Chandrachud take oath as new Chief Justice of India (CJI)   

President Droupadi Murmu administer the oath of office to the new Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud at Rashtrapati Bhawan. He succeeds Justice UU Lalit, who retired on 8th November 2022.

Justice DY Chandrachud has been appointed as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI).

About new CJI Justice DY Chandrachud 

Born on November 11, 1959, Justice DY Chandrachud was enrolled as an Advocate on July 20, 1982. Justice Chandrachud joined the Bombay Bar after obtaining a LLM and SJD from Harvard Law School.

Justice DY Chandrachud has been previously the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and a former Judge of the Bombay High Court. He was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on May 13, 2016.

Justice DY Chandrachud is a Guest Lecturer at Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, Australian National University and University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. He has been invited to several organizations as a speaker, including the United Nations High Commission on Human Rights, the World Bank, United Nations Environmental Program, Asian Development Bank and the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts.

Justice DY Chandrachud, in his six years at the Supreme Court so far, has delivered several seminal judgments including the decriminalization of homosexuality, decriminalization of adultery, declaration of privacy as a fundamental right and combating caste and gender discrimination through the Indian Constitution. His judgments, including his notable dissents, have enriched Indian jurisprudence on constitutional law, human rights law, gender justice, criminal law and labour law. His vision for a just and equitable society precedes his days at the bench. IFFI 53 to open with Austrian Director Dieter Berner’s Alma and Oskar 

The 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held in Goa from November 20 to November 28 will open with Austrian film Alma and Oskar. The passionate and tumultuous relationship between the Viennese society Grand Dame Alma Mahler (1879-1964) and Austrian artist Oskar Kokoschka ((1886-1980) is the subject of this biopic. Directed by Dieter Berner, the film has a total runtime of 110 minutes.


India participates in World Travel Market 2022 (WTM) at London

Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is participating at World Travel Market (WTM) 2022 from 7th to 9th November in London which is one of the largest international travel exhibitions.

The theme of this year`s exhibition is ‘The Future of Travel Starts Now’. India’s participation at WTM is significant to step up recovery of Inbound tourism to pre-pandemic level.
