Shobha Gupta Appointed As Director General of Defence Estates
Smt Shobha Gupta, a 1990 batch officer of the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES) has been appointed as Director General of Defence Estates (DGDE).

Shobha Gupta took over the appointment of new Director General of Defence Estates (DGDE), New Delhi with effect from 30th September 2025.

Shobha Gupta is a 1990 batch officer of the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES).
Shobha has served in several important appointments including Chief Executive Officer of various Cantonment Boards, Defence Estates Officer of different Circles, Director Defence Estates, Central Command, as well as Principal Director, Defence Estates, South-West Command and Western Command.
About Directorate General, Defence Estates (DGDE)
Directorate General, Defence Estates (DGDE) is the Headquarters of the Indian Defence Estates Service. DGDE provides advisory inputs on all Cantonments and Land matters to the Ministry of Defence and Service Headquarters i.e. Army, Navy, Air Force and other organizations under Ministry of Defence.

Acquisition of lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation of displaced persons, Hiring and requisitioning of lands and buildings, are some of the responsibilities of DGDE.
DGDE has under its jurisdiction six Principal Directorates namely, Principal Directors, Central, Eastern, Northern, Southern, South-western and Western Command. Under the Principal Directorates there are 39 Defence Estates Offices and 4 ADEO Circles for management of defence lands in the country.
The Directorate General of Defence Estates is entrusted with the management of approximately 18 lakh acres of defence land across the country. It operates under six Commands, 38 Defence Estates Circles and 61 Cantonment Boards, playing a vital role in defence land management and civic administration in Cantonments.
