Indian Railways launches 9 ‘Sewa Service’ Trains to connect smaller towns around major cities


These services were launched by the Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal along with Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, from New Delhi by inaugurating Delhi-Shamli passenger train.

Other trains were flagged off through video-conferencing connected to the terminal stations where these trains are to start. These Sewa trains will provide connectivity to the far-flung areas where stoppages of premiere trains were not possible.

Sewa Service’ trains have been planned with spare rakes as a part of ‘sweating of assets’ initiative by the Indian Railways to have better utilization of the rolling stock.

9 ‘Sewa Service’ trains in eight states, four trains will run on a daily basis and other five, 6 days a week

  1. Vadnagar – Mahesana DEMU (6 days a week) - Gujarat
  2. Asarva –Himmatnagar DEMU (6 days a week)- Gujarat
  3. Karur – Salem DEMU (6 days a week)- Tamil Nadu
  4. Coimbatore – Pollachi Passenger (6 days a week)- Tamil Nadu
  5. Coimbatore – Palani Passenger (Daily)- Tamil Nadu
  6. Yesvantpur – Tumkur DEMU (6 days a week) - Karnataka
  7. Murkongselek – Dibrugarh Passenger (Daily) - Assam
  8. Bhubaneswar – Nayagarh Express (Daily) - Assam
  9. Delhi – Shamli Passenger (Daily)
