1. Vizag Andhra Pradesh to host 14th Global Healthcare Summit in 2021
  • For the 1st time, a 3-days long 14th Global Healthcare Summit (GHS) in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP) from January 3, 2021.
  • 14th Global Healthcare Summit in 2021 in Visakhapatnam being organised by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI).
  • Over 500 doctors from the USA, Australia, Britain and other countries to participate in the summit.


2. Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha gets 1 year extension
  • Umesh Sinha has been re-employed as the Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) after the approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). 
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the re-employment Umesh Sinha on a contract basis for one year with effect from January 1, 2020, and up to December 31, 2020.


3. Kerala becomes 1st State to pass resolution against citizenship Amendment Act
  • Kerala became the 1st state in the country to pass a resolution scrapping the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA).
  • Chief Ministers of several states including West Bengal, Punjab, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi have also announced for not implementing CAA in their states.


4. Reserve Bank of India launches MANI app for visually challenged to identify currency notes
  • Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Shaktikanta Das launched a mobile app named “MANI” (Mobile Aided Note Identifier) that would help visually impaired people to identify denomination of currency notes correctly.
  • The app, which is available on both Android and iOS operating systems.


5. Pragati Maidan metro station renamed as Supreme Court metro station: Delhi
  • Delhi government has renamed the Pragati Maidan Metro station as the Supreme Court metro station.
  • The demand was made by the Supreme court in September 2019. 
  • Delhi government also changed the following names: Lajpat Nagar Flyover to Sri Jhoole Lal Setu and Shakti Nagar Chowk to Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk.


6. Indian Railways to Launch Tejas Express on Ahmedabad-Mumbai Route
  • After the successful run of Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express, the second premium Tejas train is ready to run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
  • The inaugural run of this second Tejas Train will be flagged off from Ahmedabad on 17th January, 2020. The commercial run of the train will start with effect from 19th January, 2020 from Ahmedabad.


7. Losar Festival Ladakhi New Year being celebrated in Ladakh Union Territory
  • Losar Festival: The people of Union Territory (UT) of the Ladakh region celebrated Losar festival, the Ladakhi new year.
  • Losar festival Ladakhi new year organized by the Ladakh Buddhist Association and Leh Hill Council, in Leh.
  • Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur participated in the celebrations.
