Retail inflation eases to 4-month low 5.91% in March due to lower food prices

Retail inflation eases to 5.91% in March: According to the central government data Retail inflation eased to 5.91 per cent in March over the previous month, mainly due to easing food prices.

According to the government data released on Monday, the retail inflation based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 6.58 per cent in February 2020 and 2.86 per cent in March last year.


As per the CPI data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), the food inflation was 8.76 percent in March this year as compared to 10.81 percent in the previous month.

The retail inflation, which is factored in by the Reserve Bank of India RBI to arrive at its monetary policy.  

The government has asked the RBI to restrict the inflation around 4 per cent, with a margin of 2 per cent on the either side.
