5th India – Saudi Arabia Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation held in New Delhi   

The 5th meeting of India – Saudi Arabia Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) was held in New Delhi on June 29, 2022.

The Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary (Armed Forces) Dinesh Kumar and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Defence for Strategic Affairs Ahmed A Aseeri.

Key Highlights 

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the progress made in military-to-military engagements, including joint exercises, expert exchanges and industry cooperation. It was decided to identify new avenues and examine areas of mutual interest for Joint Venture in order to enhance defence industry cooperation. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman releases Business Reform Action 2020

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman released the Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP)- 2020 in New Delhi.

In the report, seven states have been identified as the top achievers based on implementation of the Business Reforms Action Plan. The states are Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Punjab, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

The report further mentioned that Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh figure under the Achievers category. While Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, Kerala, Rajasthan and West Bengal have been placed in the Aspirers category.


President Kovind appoints Judge Alok Aradhe chief Justice of Karnataka High Court  

President of India Ram Nath Kovind, appointed Alok Aradhe as chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. He replaced Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi.

Background

In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President Ram Nath Kovind is pleased to appoint Justice Alok Aradhe, senior-most Judge of the Karnataka High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 03.07.2022 consequent upon the retirement of Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Chief Justice, Karnataka High Court.


Eknath Shinde took oath as the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra

Eknath Shinde takes oath as new CM of Maharashtra: Shivsena rebel leader Eknath Shinde was sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath of office to Shinde. He has become the 20th Chief Minister of the state.

Besides, Shinde, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis was sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister.


ISRO successfully launches PSLV C-53 rocket carrying three Singaporean satellites  

The national space agency, Indian Space Research Organisation, has successfully launched three Singaporean satellites Thursday evening from the spaceport at Sriharikota.

The commercial launch was performed using the workhorse rocket PSLV-C53 that lifted off carrying the three main payloads.


Govt authorizes SBI to issue and cash Electoral Bonds 

Govt authorises SBI to issue and cash Electoral Bonds: The Union Government has authorised the State Bank of India for issue and encash Electoral Bonds through its 29 Authorised Branches, upto 10th of July 2022.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the Electoral Bonds shall be valid for fifteen calendar days from the date of issue and no payment shall be made to any payee Political Party if the Electoral Bond is deposited after expiry of the validity period. Railways Minister Ashwini chair 14th Joint Committee Meeting on Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project 

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications co-chaired the 14th Joint Committee Meeting from Indian Side to discuss and decide on all important issues related to execution of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project.

Joint Committee meeting between Government of India and Government of Japan is the highest consultative body for taking ahead projects of mutual interests and benefits. Japanese Government is committed to fund the MAHSR projects with a soft loan and technical and financial cooperation.


Monsoon session of Parliament will start from 18th July

The monsoon session of Parliament will start on 18th of July and will continue upto 12th August 2022. On the first day of the Session, the Presidential Election will be held. The Vice Presidential election will be held on 6th August.


India Centre inaugurated at Busan University of Foreign Studies in South Korea  

Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) established an India Centre for promotion of India focused activities in the University.

According to a note from the Indian Embassy in Seoul, the Centre will act as a nodal point for India-related events in Busan and serve as a ready resource for students interested in India and to expand academic and cultural cooperation with the University.

The Centre has also appointed a team of 10 volunteers who will be helping in organizing the activities from time-to-time. The possible future activities and programmes of the Centre could include performances, workshops, lecdems, exhibitions etc.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 197.74 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.55%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 197.74 Cr (1,97,74,71,041) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.67 Cr (3,67,58,383) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,07,189. Active cases now constitute 0.25% of the country's total Positive Cases. 17,070 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.55%. 14,413 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,28,36,906.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 3.59% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 3.40%.
