Praveen Kumar Srivastava and Arvinda Kumar take oath as Vigilance Commissioners  

Praveen Kumar Srivastava and Arvinda Kumar appointed as new Vigilance Commissioners: Praveen Kumar Srivastava and Arvinda Kumar took oath as Vigilance Commissioners.

They were sworn in by the Central Vigilance Commissioner Suresh N Patel at the office of the Central Vigilance Commission in New Delhi.

Praveen Kumar Srivastava and Arvinda Kumar were appointed as Vigilance Commissioners in the Central Vigilance Commission by the President of India by warrants dated 21st July, 2022.


India achieves landmark milestone, over 75000 startups recognised so far 

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced that India has achieved a landmark milestone, wherein 75000 startups have been recognized in the country. These numbers tell the power of a vision. A vision to see innovation & enterprise drive growth, he emphasized.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognized more than 75,000 startups- a milestone.

Key Highlights with Details

Out of the total recognized startups, around 12% cater to IT services, 9% to Healthcare and Life Sciences, 7% to education, 5% to professional and commercial services and 5% to agriculture. An impressive, 7.46 lakh jobs have been created by the Indian startup ecosystem, so far, which has been a 110% yearly increase over the last 6 years. The fact that about 49% of our startups are from Tier II & Tier III today is a validation of the tremendous potential of our country’s youth.


NIESBUD sign MoU with Hindustan Unilever to develop entrepreneurial skills 

In an effort to inculcate a culture of innovation, imagination and proactiveness among youngsters, National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) and Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for developing entrepreneurial skills among the youth and identifying other aspects for mutual collaboration.

MoUs Key Highlights 

The alliance will further enhance employment generation and create sustainable livelihood opportunities, giving a major boost to nano and micro-entrepreneurship advancement in the country.

Under the partnership, both the entities will collaborate to organise training programmes, develop course curriculum, undertake cluster development activities, organise workshops and extend incubation support, provide industry linkages, assist trainees in linking up with suitable wage employment, etc.


Indian Railways records best ever July Monthly freight loading of 122.14 MT in July 

Indian Railways (IR) has recorded the best ever July Monthly freight loading of 122.14 MT in July’22. The incremental loading in the month of July has been 9.3 MT i.e. a growth of 8.25 % over the previous best July figures achieved in 2021. With this, Indian Railways has had 23 straight months of best ever monthly freight loading.

Indian Railways has achieved an incremental loading of 11.54 MT in Coal, followed by 1.22 MT in Balance other goods, 0.56 MT each in Cement & Clinker and Containers and 0.47 MT in POL.

Increase in automobile loading has been another highlight of Freight Business in FY 2022- 23 and 1698 rakes have been loaded in FY 2022-23 till July as compared to 994 rakes during the same period of last year i.e. a growth of 71%.


CCPA issues 24 notices for unfair trade practices against e-commerce companies 

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued 24 notices for unfair trade practices against e-commerce companies and issued two Safety Notices to alert and make consumers cautious against buying household goods like pressure cookers, helmets etc. that do not conform to the Bureau of Indian Standards

The CCPA has notified the Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements for Misleading Advertisements, 2022 on 9th June, 2022. These guidelines provide for; (a) conditions for an advertisement to be non-misleading and valid; (b) certain stipulations in respect of bait advertisements and free claim advertisements; and, (c) prohibition of surrogate advertisements.

The Department of Consumer Affairs has also constituted a committee to develop a framework on checking fake and deceptive reviews in e-commerce.

Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has been established w.e.f 24.07.2020 to regulate matters, inter alia, relating to false or misleading advertisements which are prejudicial to the interests of public and consumers as a class.


CWG-2022: Weightlifter Vikas Thakur clinches silver at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 

Commonwealth Games 2022: Weightlifter Vikas Thakur clinched a silver medal in the men's 96kg final event at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022).

Vikas Thakur lifted a total of 346kg to win the silver medal, which includes 155kg in snatch and 191kg in clean and jerk at the Games.

Commonwealth Games 2022: Indian men's table tennis team clinched the gold medal after beating Singapore 3-1 in the final event at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022).

CWG-2022: Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh wins bronze medal at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 

Commonwealth Games 2022: Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh won bronze medal in the 109 kg category of men's weightlifting at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022).

The 24-year-old Lovepreet Singh from Punjab lifted a total of 355kg to win the bronze medal, which includes 163kg in snatch and a new national record of 192 kg in clean and jerk.

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 204.84 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.49%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 204.84 Cr (2,04,84,30,732) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.91 Cr (3,91,64,000) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,37,057. Active cases now constitute 0.31% of the country's total Positive Cases. 17,135 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.49%. 19,823 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,34,03,610.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 4.67% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 3.69%.
