CWG-2022: Weightlifter Vikas Thakur clinches silver at Birmingham Commonwealth Games
Commonwealth Games 2022: Weightlifter Vikas Thakur clinched a silver medal in the men's 96kg final event at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022).
Vikas Thakur lifted a total of 346kg to win the silver medal, which includes 155kg in snatch and 191kg in clean and jerk at the Games
Vikas Thakur wins his 3rd Consecutive medal at the Commonwealth Games he had won a silver medal in the 85 kg weight category at Glascoe 2014 and a bronze in the 94 kg category at Gold Coast.
This time Vikas Thakur clinched a silver medal in Men's 96kg category at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.
With this, India’s medal tally reaches 11 with 4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.
About Birmingham Commonwealth Games Silver medalist Vikas Thakur
Vikas Thakur started Weightlifting in the year 2002 at just nine years of age. He played his first National competition in 2006. He was inducted in the Indian National Camp in the year 2011 where he played his first International competition.
Vikas Thakur father used to work as a farmer, who found it very difficult to support Vikas financially in his passion for Weightlifting. However, he always inspired Vikas to follow a career in sports. The Thakur families stars aligned when Vikas’s father Mr. B.L. Thakur got a job in Indian Railways.
The Thakur family became more financially stable and Vikas left no stones unturned to achieve laurels for the country.
