Govt Appoints Govind Mohan New Union Home Secretary

The Government of India (GoI) has appointed Senior IAS officer Govind Mohan as the new Union Home Secretary. He will succeed Ajay Kumar Bhalla whose tenure is going to end on 22nd August 2024. Mohan is currently Secretary in the Ministry of Culture.

IAS Govind Mohan Appointed New Union Home Secretary

Senior IAS officer Govind Mohan has been appointed as the new Union Home Secretary. Govind Mohan will replace the current Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla whose term is going to end on the 22nd of this month.

Ajay Kumar Bhalla is a 1984-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was appointed as Union Home Secretary in August 2019.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Govind Mohan name as the next Home Secretary.

About Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan 

Govind Mohan is a 1989-batch IAS officer from Sikkim cadre. He is currently Secretary in the Culture Ministry.

Mohan has previously served as Joint Secretary in 2018 and as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) from 2018 to 2021.

Educational Life

Govind Mohan completed his 12th from St. Francis College, Lucknow in the year 1982. From 1982 to 1986, he studied electrical engineering from BHU IIT, Varanasi. Mohan obtained a PG degree in Management from IIM Ahmedabad from 1986 to 1988.

Union Home Secretary

The Home Secretary is the administrative head of the Ministry of Home Affairs. A senior IAS officer of the Secretary level of the Government of India is appointed to this post.

The current Home Secretary is Ajay Kumar Bhalla whose term is going to end on 22 August 2024, after which Govind Mohan will take over.
