President Droupadi Murmu Appoints Justice Manmohan As Supreme Court Judge

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Manmohan, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. With the appointment of Justice Manmohan, the number of judges in the Supreme Court has increased to 33.

Justice Manmohan Appointed As Supreme Court Judge

Delhi High Court Chief Justice Manmohan was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court. President Droupadi Murmu has approved the appointment of Justice Manmohan as a Supreme Court judge.

On November 23, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of Justice Manmohan to the Supreme Court. With the appointment of Justice Manmohan, the number of judges in the Supreme Court has increased to 33. The sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court is 34, including the Chief Justice of India (CJI).

About Justice Manmohan

Justice Manmohan was born in Delhi on December 17, 1962. He completed his schooling from Modern School, Barakhambha Road. He holds a BA (Hons) in History from Hindu College, University of Delhi. He also holds an LLB degree from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi.

He was enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in the year 1987. Justice Manmohan has practiced primarily in the Supreme Court of India and High Court of Delhi in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Taxation, Arbitration, Trademark and Service litigation.

He served as Senior Panel Advocate for the Government of India in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India.

On 18 January 2003, Justice Manmohan was designated as a senior advocate by the Delhi High Court. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court on 13 March 2008 and as a permanent judge on 17 December 2009.

Manmohan was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on 9 November 2023. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court on 29 September 2024.
