68th National Film Awards 2022 announced: The winners of the 68th National Film Awards for the year 2020 were announced in New Delhi today.

Madhya Pradesh wins Most Film Friendly State award while Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh get Special Mention. ‘The Longest Kiss’ by Kishwar Desai wins Best Book on Cinema for the year while Malayalam book ‘MT Anunahvangalude Pusthakam’ and Odia book ‘Kali Paine Kalira Cinema’ win special mention.

India and the UK sign MoU to increase educational opportunities for Indian students 

The India-UK signed an MoU to increase educational opportunities for Indian students. India and the UK signed two MoUs on mutual recognition of educational qualifications including maritime education and a Framework Agreement on health care workforce. These agreements will facilitate closer alignment on education between India and UK, enhance short-term bilateral mobility and ensure mutual recognition of qualifications.

Background

This MoU provides for mutual recognition of educational qualifications and duration of study undertaken by students within duly approved and recognized higher education institutions in the two countries. On a reciprocal basis, Indian Senior Secondary School/Pre-University Certificates will be considered suitable for entry into UK higher education institutions. 

Similarly, the Bachelor degree, Master’s degree and Doctoral degree of India and the UK will also be considered equivalent to each other. Apart from encouraging student mobility, the mutual recognition of qualifications would also promote excellence in higher education through cooperation, academic and research exchanges.

The MOU on maritime education qualification will pave the way for the two governments to mutually recognize the certificates of maritime education and training, competency and endorsements of seafarers issued by each other. The MoU will prove beneficial for employment of seafarers of both the countries and would make them eligible for employment on ships of either party. India being a seafarer supplying nation with a large pool of trained seafarers, it is expected to be significantly benefited by the MoU.


NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu elected as the 15th President of India 

NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu has been elected as the 15th President of India. Draupadi Murmu is the first tribal woman as well as the youngest President to hold the post.

According to the Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody, Ms. Murmu bagged 64 percent of the votes in the poll and opposition Candidate Yashwant Sinha got 36 per cent.

Ms. Murmu got votes of two thousand 824 lawmakers including 540 MPs and the value of the vote is Six lakh 76 thousand 803. Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha got the votes of One thousand eight hundred 77 lawmakers including 208 MPs and the value of the vote is three lakh 80 thousand 177.


RBI imposes ₹57.75 lakh penalty on Suryoday Small Finance Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹57.75 lakh (Rupees Fifty-seven lakh seventy-five thousand only) on Suryoday Small Finance Bank Ltd. (the bank) for non-compliance with the ‘Reserve Bank of India (Frauds classification and reporting by commercial banks and select FIs) directions 2016’ issued by RBI.

Background

The Statutory Inspection of the bank was conducted by RBI with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2019, and the examination of the Inspection Report (IR) and all related correspondences pertaining to the same revealed, inter alia, non-compliance with the aforesaid RBI directions to the extent the bank failed to (i) furnish FMR to RBI, with respect to certain cases of fraud, within three weeks of their date of detection, and (ii) refer to State Police authorities certain cases of fraud committed by its staff.

Neeraj Chopra qualify for World Athletics Championships final at Oregon in USA 

India's Neeraj Chopra has qualified for the men's javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA. Apart from Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav also qualified for the World Athletics Championships final.

Olympic gold medalist Chopra sealed her place in the final with a first throw of 88.39m in the qualification round.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 201.30 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.46%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 201.30 Cr (2,01,30,97,819) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.83 Cr (3,83,43,085) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,49,482. Active cases now constitute 0.34% of the country's total Positive Cases. 21,880 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.46%. 21,219 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,31,71,653.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 4.51% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 4.42%.
