Surgeon Vice Admiral Kavita Sahai, SM, VSM assumed charge as Director General Medical Services (Navy) on 14 October 2024. The Flag Officer was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps on 30 December 1986. Kavita Sahai is the first woman officer to be elected as Col Commandant of Army Medical Corps.

Vice Admiral Kavita Sahai Appointed As DGMS (Navy)
Surgeon Vice Admiral Kavita Sahai has been appointed as the new Director General Medical Services DGMS (Navy).
Vice Admiral Kavita Sahai took over the appointment of Director General Medical Services DGMS (Navy) at New Delhi with effect from 14 October 2024.

Prior to assuming charge as the DGMS (Navy), VAdm Kavita Sahai was the First woman Commandant of AMC Centre & College and O i/C Records.
About DGMS Navy VAdm Kavita Sahai
VAdm Kavita Sahai is an alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, she has done specialisation in Pathology and Super Specialisation in Oncopathology from the prestigious AIIMS, New Delhi.

Kavita Sahai was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps on 30 December 1986. She has been Professor and head of Department, Lab Sciences at Army Hospital Research and Referral (AHRR), New Delhi and Base Hospital Delhi Cantt (BHDC).
She has also been Professor at Dept of Pathology, Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. She is the first woman officer to be elected as Col Commandant of Army Medical Corps.

VAdm Kavita was awarded the prestigious Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) Fellowship for advancement of Med Education from Philadelphia, USA in 2013-14.
Awards and Honours
In recognition for her distinguished Service, Vice Admiral Kavita Sahai has been awarded the Sena Medal in 2024 and Vishisht Seva Medal in 2018 and has been Commended by the Chief of the Army Staff twice in 2008 & 2012 and the General Officer Commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-C) (WC) in 2010.
