President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court as Judges of the Supreme Court of India. The appointment will be effective from the date they assume charge. Recently, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of Justice Alok Aradhe and Vipul M Pancholi to the Supreme Court. With the appointment of two new judges, the sanctioned strength of judges in the court has increased to 34. The Supreme Court will function with 34 judges until the retirement of Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai on November 23, 2025.

Justice Alok Aradhe and Vipul Manubhai Pancholi Appointed As Supreme Court Judge
Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Justice Alok Aradhe and Chief Justice of the Patna High Court Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi have been appointed as the new judges of the Supreme Court.
President Droupadi Murmu has approved the appointment of Justice Alok Aradhe and Vipul M Pancholi as a Supreme Court judge.
Recently, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of Justice Alok Aradhe and Vipul M. Pancholi to the Supreme Court. With the appointment of two new judges, the sanctioned strength of judges in the court has increased to 34. The sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court is 34, including the Chief Justice of India (CJI).

Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai administered the swearing-in of Justices Alok Aradhe and Vipul M. Pancholi as Supreme Court judges.
About Justice Alok Aradhe
Justice Alok Aradhe was born in Raipur on 13th April 1964. He holds a B.Sc. and LL.B degree. He was enrolled as Advocate on 12th July 1988.
Justice Aradhe has practiced on Civil and Constitutional, Arbitration and Company matters in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh. He was designated as Senior Advocate in April, 2007.
Alok Aradhe was appointed as Additional Judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court on 29 December 2009 and as Permanent Judge on 15 February 2011.
He was transferred to High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and took oath as such on 20th September 2016.
Justice Aradhe was nominated as Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy on 7th June 2017. He was Appointed as Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 11th May 2018 and functioned as such upto 10th August 2018. Thereafter he was nominated as Executive Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority on 4th September 2018.

On transfer to Karnataka High Court, His Lordship took oath as Judge of Karnataka High Court on 17th November 2018. His Lordship assumed charge as the Acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court on 3rd July 2022 and functioned as such upto 14th October 2022. He served as President of Bangalore Mediation Centre, Arbitration and Conciliation Centre and President of Karnataka Judicial Academy.
Justice Alok was Appointed as Chief Justice, High Court for the State of Telangana on 19th July 2023 and took oath of office on 23rd July 2023.
Justice Alok Aradhe then transferred as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court and assumed charge on 21st January 2025.
Justice Vipul M. Pancholi
Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi was born in Ahmedabad on 28th May 1968. He completed his Bachelor of Science (Electronics) from St. Xavier's College, Ahmedabad, Gujarat University and Master of Laws in Commercial Group from Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad, Gujarat University.
Justice Vipul M. Pancholi entered the Bar in September 1991 and started practice as an advocate in the High Court of Gujarat.
He was appointed as Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor, High Court of Gujarat and served as such for seven years till March 2006. Also he was appointed as Honorary Joint Editor of the Law Reporter – The Gujarat Law Herald for two years.
He worked as visiting faculty at Sir L.A. Shah Law College, Ahmedabad from December 1993 for twenty one years.
He handled important cases in various branches of law like Criminal Law, Civil Law, Property Law, Service Law, Family Law, Banking Law and various other laws.

Vipul M Pancholi was elevated as Additional Judge, High Court of Gujarat on 1st October 2014 and confirmed as permanent Judge on 10th June 2016.
Thereafter Justice Vipul M. Pancholi was transferred to Patna High Court and took oath as Judge, Patna High Court on 24th July, 2023 and became the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on 21st July, 2025.
Supreme Court of India
The Supreme Court of India is the apex judicial body under the Constitution of India. Article 124 of the Constitution states that "There shall be a Supreme Court of India." The Supreme Court came into existence on 26 January 1950 with the coming into force of the Constitution.
