The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Smt. Sonali Sen Gupta as the new Executive Director (ED) with effect from October 9th, 2025. Before being appointed as Executive Director of RBI, Sonali Sen Gupta was working as Regional Director for Karnataka in Bengaluru Regional Office. Sonali Sen is an RBI nominated director on the board of Indian Overseas Bank.

Sonali Sen Gupta Appointed As New Executive Director of RBI
Sonali Sen Gupta has been appointed as the new Executive Director (ED) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with effect from October 9th, 2025.
Before being appointed as Executive Director of RBI, Sonali Sen Gupta was working as Regional Director for Karnataka in Bengaluru Regional Office.

Sonali Sen Gupta took over the appointment of Executive Director (ED) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) at Mumbai with effect from 9th October 2025.
Role and Responsibilities of RBI Executive Director Sonali Sen Gupta
As Executive Director of RBI, Sonali Sen Gupta will take charge of the Department of Consumer Education and Protection, Department of Financial Inclusion and Development and Department of Inspection.

Sonali Sen Gupta areas of expertise are Banking Regulation and Supervision and Human Resource Development at Central Office as well Regional Offices level.
About Sonali Sen Gupta ED of RBI
Smt. Sonali Sen Gupta has experience of over three decades in the Reserve Bank having worked in areas of Financial Inclusion, Human Resource Management, Banking Regulation and Supervision.

She has represented the Reserve Bank in G20 – Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) and OECD – International Network on Financial Education (INFE) and has served as a Director on the board of National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE).
She has worked in the Central Office as well as Chandigarh, Kolkata and New Delhi Regional Offices of the Reserve Bank.
Sonali Sen served as a member secretary to ‘Internal Working Group to Review Agricultural Credit’ and led the team providing secretarial assistance to the ‘Expert Committee on MSME’, set up in 2019. She was also a part of a specialized committee on Rationalization of Returns/Statements, set up under Regulation Review Authority 2.0.
Sonali Sen has also served as a member of various other internal and external Committees. She is an RBI nominated director on the board of Indian Overseas Bank.
Educational Life of Sonali Sen Gupta
Smt. Sonali Sen Gupta is a post-graduate with an MBA in Banking and Finance. She is also a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Banking & Finance (IIBF).
About Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
The Reserve Bank of India was established on April 1, 1935 according to the provisions of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. The headquarters of the Reserve Bank was initially established in Kolkata but was permanently moved to Mumbai in 1937.
