Commonwealth Games 2022: Saurav Ghosal bagged the bronze medal in men's singles squash event at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022).

The bronze medal won by Saurav Ghoshal is India's first singles medal in squash competition in the history of the Commonwealth Games.

It was Saurav Ghosal's second Commonwealth Games medal, having won a mixed doubles silver with Dipika Pallikal in the 2018 Gold Coast edition.

With this, India’s medal tally reaches 15 with 5 golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronze medals.

About Commonwealth Games 2022 Bronze Medalist Saurav Ghoshal

Saurav Ghoshal was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. He started playing squash in his hometown of Kolkata, at the Calcutta Racquet Club. He did his schooling at Lakshmipat Singhania Academy.

Saurav Ghoshal moved to Chennai after completing his school and was based at the ICL squash academy in Chennai and coached by Major (Rtd) Maniam and Mr. Cyrus Poncha in Chennai.

Saurav Ghoshal started participating in various tournaments at a young age. Ghosal has numerous firsts to his credit; he is the first Indian to be ranked junior World No. 1, the first to bag the junior National championship three years in a row, and in December 2006, he won the country's first medal in squash at the Doha Asian Games. His first triumph of significance came in 2002 when he won the German Open in the fifth month of 2002. In 2019, Saurav entered the Top 10 in the World Rankings.
